I finished my entry into the Hoffman Challenge 2012

I am glad I pushed this through even though I had serious reasons why not to even enter this year.
I am very happy I did and am pleased with the results.  This pair is 20 inches high, all fabric construction
with silk interlock over clay faces lightly watercolor/acrylic painted features.  The fabric, is of course, the
usual challenging fabric Hoffman features in this annual contest.   Those roses are 4 - 5 inches across and have to be somehow scaled down to doll size.  I used piping of it in the man's sleeves of his justacorps,

and slivers sewn together on the bias and then ribbon applied across it.  I am rather pleased with his stockings, too.. and their shoes.  When I am less tired and have more light I will take much better photographs, before mailing this pair off to the curator of the show.  Hope you all love them. <3

    3. AW, Donna, The judge's notes were sad for me, though. She said everything was perfect to her from their hair, their costumes, their 'story' their pose...and how I translated the fabric. But she was forced to deduct major points for how I had stuffed them. I just didn't have the patience to do a fully 'plumped' body and limbs. Since this was a cloth doll contest, that was paramount. I was so sad and distracted. But I am still proud I finished them and one day, they will be my daughter's.

  2. You have done a wonderful job. Yes would love to see those stocking!
I keep thinking of doing this challenge, but fabric is always so out of scale. Your male face is very good, of course lady is too~but a male face is very different and so many do not achieve good results.

  3. thank you, Terrianne, and thank you, ruthanne,

I think they make the biggest print they can just to give us doll makers a run for our money, ruthanne!

I was just too tired and the weather was horrible today to take clear
photographs, so this will have to do, sorry. I have to get them in the mail now.

love and thank you for all your support,

    Dallas
